Consul General Tim Sandusky participated in Yekaterinburg’s Victory Day commemorations on May 9 by laying a wreath at the Shirokaya Rechka Military memorial and visiting Russia’s largest veterans’ hospital. The Consul General joined local officials, veterans’ groups, religious leaders, and Yekaterinburg’s diplomatic corps in the wreath-laying ceremony, which honored the memory of those killed during World War II.

At the Sverdlovsk Oblast Veteran’s Hospital located on the outskirts of Yekaterinburg, Mr. Sandusky spoke at a banquet for Russian war veterans. In his remarks, the Consul General recognized the sacrifices of the war years and expressed his admiration for the veterans’ endurance. He noted that at a time when the United States and Russia have opened a new chapter in their relationship, it is proper to remember the wartime cooperation between our two nations and to look forward to our continuing joint efforts to meet the global challenges of the 21st century.
