The mission of DOE in Russia is to support implementation of DOE and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) nonproliferation and energy programs in the Russian Federation. Regarding NNSA's nonproliferation programs, DOE works to increase the national security of the United States by working cooperatively with Russian counterparts at the Ministry of Atomic Energy, the Russian Navy, the State Customs Committee, the Russian Academy of Sciences and various institutes to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Overseas Private Investment Corporation: Michele R. Smith

The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) helps U.S. businesses compete in emerging markets and meet the challenges of investing overseas when private sector support is not available. OPIC offers up to $250 million in long term financing and/or political risk insurance to U.S. companies investing in over 150 emerging markets and developing countries, including Russia. Backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government, OPIC advocates for U.S. investment, offers experience in risk management, and draws on an outstanding record of success.

Since 1992, OPIC has provided more than $4.5 billion in finance and insurance to more than 140 projects in Russia , ranging from manufacturing to telecommunications. OPIC's current finance and insurance investments in Russia provide more than $475 million to projects in the manufacturing, financial services, and agribusiness sectors. Additionally, through its Investment Funds program, OPIC has committed approximately $900 million to seven funds that have invested in Russia . Currently, the program has six funds that have a total of $195 million invested in over 15 projects in Russia .
