Public Affairs

Introduction

The Public Affairs Section's objective is to expand contacts between Russians and Americans. It is responsible for the U.S. Consulate General's press relations, educational programs, and cultural exchange programs. It also provides information service and support for the American Corners in the Urals Consular District.

Cultural and Educational Exchange Programs

The U.S. Department of State administers programs to promote direct contact and the free exchange of ideas between Americans and Russians. Under these programs, Russians from many professions -- including business people, educators, elected officials scientists and students -- have been able to visit the U.S. and exchange views with their American colleagues. Our programs also sponsor visits by Americans to Russia to lecture, teach and share experiences.

American Corners and Centers

There are six American Corners in the Urals Consular District - in Chelyabinsk, Omsk, Perm, Ufa, Tyumen and Yekaterinburg. They are the results of successful partnerships between the U.S. Mission and local libraries. These American Corners provide students, teachers, professionals, and USG program alumni with accurate and up-to-date information about political, economic, cultural, educational, and social life in the United States.
