John Quincy Adams and The Beginnings of American-Russian Diplomatic Relations
March 2, 2007

Dr. Lynn Hudson Parsons, a distinguished American historian, visited Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk on February 26-27 as a U.S. Embassy Speaker.  Dr. Parsons’ intense program included lectures at Chelyabinsk State Pedagogical University, South Urals State University, Urals State Pedagogical University and the Yekaterinburg Institute of International Relations.  Over 300 Russian students, many future teachers, had an opportunity to question the biographer of the Sixth President of the United States and the first American Minister to Russia – John Quincy Adams.  Dr. Parsons has also met with Yekaterinburg secondary schools students and their tutors involved in the U.S. Embassy Essay Competition and the Consulate’s recently announced American-Russian Internet School Project devoted to the same great American.

Dr. Parsons’ visit opened a series of events programmed by the Consulate for the bicentennial anniversary of U.S.-Russian Diplomatic Relations in 2007.
