A Night of Music
April 1, 2005

In honor of the U.S. Consulate’s 11th anniversary on March 31st, guest conductor Charles Ansbacher and the Urals State Philharmonic Orchestra engaged in a moving dialog using the universal language of music.  “Maestro Charles”, as they referred to him in Yekaterinburg, introduced Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”, John Williams’ “Cowboys Overture” and Faure incidental music to Pelleas and Melisande Suite.  The concert, and especially its core element – The Planets – (a first-ever presentation in the Urals), moved the audience.    The audience expressed their admiration throughout the show with a storm of applauses and afterwards, stood in line to get the Maestro’s autograph.  The American conductor was impressed by the outstanding professional level of the Yekaterinburg orchestra, managed by Dmitriy Liss, remarking that: “It was an enormous pleasure to have a chance to work with such talented musicians at a wonderful concert hall for a fantastic audience”.  The visit of Charles Ansbacher was organized by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Yekaterinburg.
