Round table on Propaganda in War-time Movies
April 10, 2007

On April 7th, at the Yekaterinburg American Center, PAS Yekaterinburg and professor David Mould, visiting IREX scholar, held a roundtable with the Humanitarian University Center of Military History and other university specialists on Hollywood's presentation of the Soviet war effort before and after 1941 using excerpts from the films, Comrade X and Days of Glory. There was an intense discussion of the propaganda uses of film during war time, including the need to convey a message that might not be entirely true. This event is part of a series on the image of the Soviet military in Hollywood film. The U.S. Consulate and Humanitarian University plan a course on the subject in the Fall semester based on a series of films provided by PAS Yekaterinburg.
