Earth Day Celebration

The world celebrates Earth Day on April 22. At a round-table discussion with Yekaterinburg’s environmental NGOs on April 21, US Consul Matthew Purl underlined the need for the U.S. and Russia to join their efforts in management of ecological problems and developing environmental awareness in society.
The Center for Environmental Training and Information (CETI) organized the round-table. Twenty university professors, NGO leaders and government officials met to discuss US and Russian approaches to management and prevention of environmental issues. The U.S. Government and CETI have cooperated in various fields since 1994. More than twenty experts in environmental sciences from the Urals and Western Siberia have visited the U.S. on exchange visitor programs sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
