April 22, 2005
Sponsored by the Almond Board of California (ABC) and organized by the U.S. Agricultural Trade Office of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow jointly with the U.S. Consulates General in key regional areas – St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok, this technical seminar targeted current and potential almond importers, distributors and processors in Russia. The teleconference itself was held in the residence of U.S. Ambassador Aleksandr Vershbow in Moscow and was simultaneously broadcast via internet to a wider audience in the Russian regions. This ‘virtual workshop’ was an opportunity to bring together Russian industry leaders, technical experts, and food technologists. This was the first technical seminar in a series of other marketing events for the country to be conducted by the Almond Board of California in the near future. The key topics discussed at the teleconference included almond grades and quality standards; varieties and classifications; processing technologies; and industry applications.
25 local professionals attended the teleconference in Yekaterinburg. The participants had a chance to send their questions to the ABC speakers using the Internet connection and get immediate answers. The workshop was followed by a reception in Consul’s residence. Consul General Rauland wished every success to the teleconference attendees and expressed the hope that the event would contribute further to strengthen business relations between the U.S. and Russia.”
