Trafficking in person conference in Yekaterinburg

Seminar on trafficking in people and migration

Sverdlovsk Human Rights Ombudswoman Tatyana Merzlyakova and the Embassy, with support from the Congen Yekaterinburg, co-hosted a seminar on trafficking in people and migration on May 17-18. Regional law enforcement agencies, NGOs, ethnic communities, legislators and legal experts took part in the well-attended seminar. Russian Federation Human Rights Ombudsman Vladimir Lukin attended the Consul General's reception for the conference participants. Resident Legal Advisor at Embassy Moscow, Terry Kinney, who was a key speaker, shared his
personal experiences as a federal prosecutor involved in prosecuting a major trafficking case in Chicago. Subjects discussed at the confeerence included:  prosecution of trafficking cases; trafficking among migrant laborers; and cooperation with local law enforcement bodies.
