Consul General John Stepanchuk made a second visit to the Republic of Udmurtia

Consul General John Stepanchuk made a second visit to the Republic of Udmurtia.  The primary purpose of this trip was to open the Museum Management workshop with U.S. experts, organized by the Consulate and the Udmurt National Museum on May 24. 

The Consul General made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Yuriy Pitkevich, with whom he discussed the economic situation in the republic and prospects for bilateral business cooperation.  Later in the day, Mr. Stepanchuk met with Izhevsk Rotary Club members and got an update on the Club’s activities in the cultural and social spheres, including the sister-cities relationship with Salt Lake City, Utah.   The Consul General visited the International East European University and was briefed on the University’s ambitious plans for creating the Tchaikovskiy Heritage Center.  The Consul General also visited the Izhmash-Auto Factory, which is co-producing Korean passenger cars for the Russian market.

On May 25, the Consul General visited Votkinsk, where he met with the City Manager, and toured the Votkinsk Portal Monitoring Facility, where he was hosted by staff of the U.S. On-Site Inspection Agency.   He concluded his visit with a tour of the childhood estate of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovskiy.
