Visiting Economist Howard Rosen Focuses on Competitiveness

Howard Rosen, Executive Director of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Coalition visited Yekaterinburg on May 25-27, 2005 to meet with the local business community and lecture at the Business School of the Urals State Technical University. At a meeting with Urals regional economists at the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Sverdlovsk Oblast on May 26, Mr. Rosen briefed the audience on the U.S. economy and competitiveness basics. Consul General Scott Rauland hosted a reception in honor of Mr. Rosen the same day welcoming Directors of business associations and Heads of local economic ministries and departments.
Presentations held at the Business School with MBA students, as well as at the American Information Center with small and medium business representatives sparked very lively discussions on a wide range of topics, from Russia's preparations for entering the WTO, to the ability of Russian businesses to compete in world markets, to the economic situation in the United States. The MBA graduates commented that the topic of competetiveness was very relevant for their businesses now.
