English Language Teacher Conference and Poster Exhibit Opening in Izhevsk

With support from the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Udmurt State University hosted the week-long (May 31st – June 3rd) National Association of Teachers of English conference.  Over 340 registered participants from all over Russia attended the conference.  Embassy English Language Officer Bridget Gersten, visiting specialist Esmeralda Santiago, and five English Language Fellows gave presentations on a variety of topics.  Public Affairs Officer Brad Hurst and Yekaterinburg English Language Fellow Stephanie Funderberg held a separate session with twenty teachers from the Ural region to discuss future collaboration and resources the Consulate can provide.

On June 3rd, PAO Hurst and the Udmurt Minister of Culture Khristoforov Averyan Trophimovich opened a WWII poster exhibit in the Udmurt National Library.  The Consulate has been touring the exhibit since April with stops in Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, and Perm.  The next opening is scheduled for June 30th in Tyumen.

During the two day trip to Udmurtia, PAO Hurst also met with the Udmurt Government, visited Izhevsk Technical University and the Udmurt National Museum to discuss the Siberian Road project
