U.S. Consulate participates in the conference on the large universities

Consul General John Stepanchuk and Public Affairs Officer Virgil Strohmeyer attended a two day conference on the development of 'Mega- Universities: goals, tasks, and methods for their creation' held at the Ural State University and organized by the journal University Management: Practice and Analysis and the NGO the Large Eurasian University Complex (chaired by the rectors of the Ural State University, the Technical University and the Architectural Academy). Administrators and scholars from across Russia were in attendance. The Consul General spoke at the opening meeting about the importance of the project for the economic and cultural development of the Urals Region as well as promising the Consulate's help should advice from America's large universities be needed. On the second day, the PAO took part in a roundtable discussion of potential risks for such large institutions. Dr. Strohmeyer’s recommendations were included in the final document later put before the committee of the whole.
