2007 Press Releases

Opening of the wood processing plant
August 1, 2007

On August 1, Consul General John Stepanchuk took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Viyskiy Wood Processing Plant, located in Nizhniy Tagil.  Sverdlovsk Oblast Governor Eduuard Rossel, Minister for Industry Vladimir Molchanov,  and Nizhniy Tagil Mayor Didenko presided over the ceremony.   The Viyskiy Wood Processing Plant plans to export over 70% of its high end wood products to the U.S., with prices and quality expected to undercut the Chinese competition.   U.S. Company Universal Wood Products provided the engineering design for the project, a portion of the financing and selected the equipment and machinery.  The equipment was sourced from Europe, Russia, Asia and the U.S. The plant will begin with manufacturing furniture components, later expanding its production to fully assembled furniture. A representative office of the Viyskiy Wood Processing Plant was set up in the U.S. to promote the distribution of its products.   Among the major U.S. customers are Consolidated Lumber and Masco/Kraftmaid.  The plant also plans to export Japan and Europe.
