Patriarch Alexis II Comes to Izhevsk
August 9, 2007

Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexis II and Udmurtia President Alexander Volkov presided over the consecration of the Cathedral of Archangel Michael in Izhevsk.  The brick cathedral with five golden domes, one of only several of its kind in all of Russia, was built in 1907 and destroyed by the Communists in 1937.  The reconstruction of the cathedral was completed this year.  Over 500 Izhevsk companies and more than 45,000 individuals contributed to the rebuilding of the cathedral.  Consul General John Stepanchuk attended the consecration.
