Consulate Opens Photo Exhibit In Nizhniy Tagil
August 18, 2004

On August 18 Consul General Scott Rauland, together with Mayor Nikolay Didenko, opened the photo exhibit “PRESIDENTIAL DIPLOMACY – 70 YEARS” in the Nizhniy Tagil Regional Study Museum. The audience at the opening included not only representatives of the city administration and cultural community of the city but also representatives of Chattanooga, Tennessee – the sister-city of Nihniy Tagil. This relationship started as a joint ecological project in 1996 and has blossomed to include regular visits between delegations of both cities.

The event inspired Nizhniy Tagil residents to share their impressions about America and a well-known local photographer showed numerous pictures he took during his visit to the U.S. 10 years ago. In the end the mayor expressed his strong wish to continue these kinds of programs, which help people to understand America not through commercial films but through art and cultural projects and by meeting real Americans in person.
