August 22, 2006
On August 24, Consul General John Stepanchuk and Political-Economic Officer Jim McNaught visited the Chelyabinsk headquarters of the METRAN company. METRAN and EMERSON company of the United States have formed one of the most successful business ventures in Russia and become a showcase of US-Russian partnership in the region. METRAN and Emerson’s Rosemount division jointly produce specialized measuring, monitoring, and control instruments for pressure, temperature, vortex flow, heat, and much more. The American delegation was hosted by METRAN President Vitaly Sidorov and Vice President and General Manager Dwight Bohm.
METRAN was founded in the 1990s by a group of Russian engineers with backgrounds in the defense industry. Emerson teamed up with METRAN in 2004, which had by then become the leading Russian company in the field of process automation technology. The joint venture has achieved 17% growth so far this year. The Chelyabinsk plant plans to open a state-of-the-art new assembly line in October, as well as a new engineering center. The venture will also unveil a new first: a 24-hour customer support center providing both sales and technical support, based on the model used by Emerson’s Rosemount division in the United States. The venture will also place up to 200 salespeople in cities of key clients, to provide face-to-face support and contact.
