Remeberance of September 11th at the American Center in Yekaterinburg
September 3, 2004
Consul General Scott Rauland and Mrs. Frances Rauland attended a ceremony commemorating the beginning of World War II on September 3 in Yekaterinburg. The event was organized and conducted by the movement "Families of Soldiers Missing In Action", headed by Aleksey Zykov. The meeting took place at the Memorial Walk of the Yekaterinburg’s Arboretum. Representatives of religious organizations, members of the diplomatic corps and media took part in the ceremony along with veterans and family members of soldiers killed or missing in action in WWII.
In remarks delivered at the ceremony, the Consul General noted that “we highly value the work of the Movement “Families of Soldiers Missed In Action”. Remembrance of the brave soldiers of World War II is to be cherished by us, our children, and our grandchildren – in Russia, America, and around the world. Only by remembering them and handing that memory down from generation to generation, can we be deserving of the great gift of freedom that the soldiers of World War II gave to us. Your noble work, by all means, deserves great respect.”
