IRO Warsaw promotes reading at library conference in Yekaterinburg

On September 11th and 12th, PAS Yekaterinburg’s IRC assistant, Slavyana Sagakyan, and IRO Warsaw, Laura Kaspari Hohmann, participated in the Bibliokaravan library conference; the theme this year was The Promotion of Books, Libraries, and Reading. The IRO made a presentation entitled, “The American Schools and Libraries of the Future.” The IRC Assistant and American Center Coordinator Maria Taff made a joint presentation called “Promoting Reading in the American Way: American Centers and Corners in Russia.” 50 copies of the latest InfoUSA were distributed to Bibliokaravan participants from across Russia. IRO Warsaw, Laura Kaspari Hohmann, met with two important contacts: Galina Kudryashova, the Library Director and Galina Scherbinina, the Deputy Director of the Library at Ural State Technical University, where they are in the second year of offering a new program in Library and Information Studies. During their meeting, Ms. Kudryashova sought contact with an American librarian with expertise in electronic reserves for a large technical university library.
