On September 14 Consul General John Stepanhcuk and staff from the Consulate in Yekaterinburg participated in the grand opening ceremony of the Carbo Ceramics proppant-making factory in the town of Kopeysk, Chelyabinsk Oblast.  Carbo Ceramics, a fully owned U.S. company based in Texas, broke ground two years ago for a plant to produce ceramic proppants for oil and gas pipeline construction.  The plant employs over 100 local staff, managed by an international team of Carbo Ceramics specialists.  The official opening of the plant was attended by Kopeysk Mayor Mikhail Konarev, Yuriy Klyopov, Minister for Economic Development of Chelyabinsk Oblast, Carbo Ceramics officials, and many journalists.  This is the first plant Carbo Ceramics plant in Russia, and Carbo Ceramics also has distribution offices in Moscow and Surgut.
