2004 Press Releases

Reopening of U.S. Consulate General in Yekaterinburg
September 17, 2004

The U.S. Consulate General in Yekaterinburg has reopened to the public following a thorough security review. Experts from the U.S. Embassy in Moscow discussed security concerns exposed by the September 10 incident with local law enforcement officials and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Oblast government. We believe there has been progress in addressing these concerns and that the utmost attention and effort will be given to enhancing the security and safety of the Consulate facility for both staff and visitors.

We regret any inconvenience the closure has caused to those seeking U.S. visas and other Consulate services. Canceled appointments will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
