JFK Photo Exhibit Opens in Kurgan
September 26, 2006
On September 26th Political/Economic Officer James McNaught visited Kurgan to open a photo exhibit devoted to John F. Kennedy at the Kurgan Regional Library. He also presented three Russian-language copies of John F. Kennedy’s book, “Profiles of Courage,” to the Library’s collection. “Profiles in Courage” was first published in the United States in 1955, but only published in Russian in 2005 with the support of the U. S Embassy in Moscow. It describes qualities of political leadership and public service by examining selected American government officials. Over 50 people, primarily university students and alumni of the U.S. Government exchange programs, attended the opening. The traveling exhibit contains photographs of John F. Kennedy’s childhood as well as his years as a U.S. Senator and President. Magazines, newspapers, and books about President Kennedy and his life are also on display, in the English, French, and Russian languages. The exhibit will remain at the Kurgan Regional Library for approximately one month.
