Visit to the Polar Circle

On September 25-27, Consul General John Stepanchuk visited the Polar city of Salegard, capital of the oil and gas rich Yamalo-Nenetsk Autonomous Okrug. He met with Governor Yuriy Neyolov as well as members of the okrug administration, city officials, and the local representative of Lukoil. He also had an occasion to acquaint himself with life and culture of the indigenous peoples, whose nomadic way of life is carefully protected. He feasted on many of Yamal's delicious native dishes, including reindeer meat and "stroganina" - frozen fish slices.
