Visit of Consul General Stepanchuk to Chelyabinsk

Consul General Stepanchuk visited Chelyabinsk on September 26-27, 2005. During visits with Governor Petr Sumin and Mayor Mikhail Yurevich, Mr. Stepanchuk discussed increasing cooperation in trade and investment, and strengthening understanding between Russia and the United States through educational and cultural exchanges. Governor Sumin described the economic development of the region and underlined the importance of reciprocal trade missions both to the U.S. and Chelyabinsk.
Mr. Stepanchuk also met with representatives of American companies Emerson-Metran and Carbo Ceramics, and businessmen involved in cooperation with U.S. companies. Mr. Stepanchuk then hosted dinner for Alumni of American government business exchange programs to learn about the situation in the small and medium business sector. He also met with NGO leaders to discuss cooperation in the area of human rights and problems such as HIV/AIDS in Chelyabinsk.
