Consulate General Hosts an Iftaar for Yekaterinburg’s Muslim Community

On October 12th the U.S. Consulate General in Yekaterinburg hosted an Iftaar for the local Muslim community for the fourth time. Consul General John Stepanchuk greeting emphasized the importance of the Muslim heritage and culture within American society. After a prayer and a meal, PAS conducted a PowerPoint presentation of the architectural variety of mosques built in the U.S. and the major events in the history of Islam in North America. PAO Virgil Strohmeyer concluded the presentation stating that today the Islamic faith has an equal place in the U.S. with other great world religions. The guests received handouts with a timeline of Islam in the United States. Present were the Imams, leaders of the Muslim ethnic communities, journalists who cover ethnic and religious issues, representatives of the Ombudsman’s office and other officials, and activists from human rights, cultural, and other NGOs among the Consulate’s guests. The Iftaar will be reported on by two local TV programs in the Bashkir and Tatar languages and by Radio Liberty.
