October 15, 2003
On October 15, 2003, on the margins of the American Corner opening celebration in Omsk, U. S. Consulate General staff put on a seminar on
"Doing Business with the United States" for the local business community.
About 60 representatives of Omsk small and medium businesses took part in the seminar. The participants included members of Omsk's two local Rotary Clubs: Club Rotary Omsk and Dostoevsky Rotary Club, as well the Omsk Small Business Association members and alumni of the USG-sponsored Business for Russia program.
Stepping in for Ambassador Vershbow, who was unable to fly into Omsk due to weather conditions at the airport, Consul General Scott Rauland welcomed the participants, highlighting the main prospects for U.S.-Russian business collaboration and presenting the U. S. Consulate General team from Yekaterinburg as an active part of the U. S. Mission Russia promoting business relations and contacts.
Commercial representative Natalia Ivanova from Yekaterinburg and BISNIS representative Azim Mamanov from Novosibirsk gave multimedia presentations, demonstrating Commercial Service opportunities and providing updated information about the services FCS and BISNIS provide in Russia and the region.
After the presentation there was an open and lively discussion during which businessmen asked numerous questions and shared their potential projects of collaboration with American partners. There was broad interest in the seminar, with more interested participants than could be accommodated.
