Yekaterinburg's Consul General orders his first Big Mac in the Urals at the McDonald's in Orenburg

Consul General Scott Rauland made his first official visit to Orenburg

Consul General Scott Rauland made his first official visit to Orenburg from October 21-22, 2004. In Orenburg, he met with Sergey Gorshenin, Deputy Governor for Economic Development and Foreign Relations, and discussed the region;s industrial development, border problems, drug trafficking, and federal reform on the regional development. Additionally, the Consul General met with Orenburg Mayor Mescheryakov and discussed the city;s sister-city relationship with Orlando, Florida and the importance of exchange programs for students and professionals.

As part of the visit, Consul General Rauland met with representatives of Orenburg;s Ministry of Agriculture to discuss the development of agriculture in the Oblast and investment opportunities. At the meeting Consul General found out that Orenburg Oblast has been importing U.S. rice and grain, corn and sunflower seeds, as well as “Case” harvesters for over five years already.

Among other activities, the Consul General met with alumni of USG programs,opened an exhibit on American mosque architecture and hosted an Iftaar for Muslim community leaders. Mr. Rauland also had lunch at the first McDonalds in the Urals, opened over a year ago, that serves 2,000 customers a day.
