Yekaterinburg students hold mock U.S. Presidential debate
October 29, 2004

On October 28th, the American Center hosted a mock debate between FLEX alumni that covered the major issues shaping the 2004 election campaign. This was the first of a series of events planned throughout the Ural region. In October Yekaterinburg FLEX alumni visited schools # 99 and 144 and taught students about the U.S. political system, American political parties, and the platforms of George Bush and John Kerry. The high school students also participated in an essay contest and the winner will be posted to the Consulate;s election website at http://usa.ural.ru/elections.htm after the election. Following the debate, the audience participated in a straw poll with the outcome reflecting the closeness of the real campaign - John Kerry won by two votes.
