Consul General Meets with US Government exchange alumni in Chelyabinsk

Consul General Scott Rauland visited the American Corner in Chelyabinsk November 14th and met with USG exchange program alumni and students of the Chelyabinsk branch of the Russian Academy of Education. The visit included a brief tour at the American Corner, which was opened in June 2003. The Director of the American Corner mentioned that the most popular event among the visitors is a Saturday movie night. Nearly 30 students and USG exchange program alumni met with the CG after the tour. Alumni of the Open World, Business for Russia, and International Visitors programs shared their impressions about their visits to the U.S. They noted how useful the exchange programs are for professional development and contacts with the people in the U.S. Questions about Russian-American relations, U.S. policy in Iraq, George Soros, and the role of open access to the internet made for a lively discussion.
