Thanksgiving Dinner for the children from the Klenovskoe Shelter
November 22, 2005
On Sunday November 20th 24 boys and girls ranging from 5 to 16 years of age from the Klenovskoe childrens' shelter visited the American Consulate General in Yekaterinburg to share a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner with Consul General John Stepanchuk and the Consulate staff.
The children arrived after having spent a fun-filled morning at the city Circus where they watched animal acts, jugglers, clowns and acrobats.
Right after the show the Consul General hosted the children to a traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner. Sitting altogether in a big friendly cirle they joined in a blessing.
When dinner was finished the children presented a program especially prepared for the event. They told the story of the American Thanksgiving holiday, recited Russian poetry, sang songs with accordion accompaniment and played on trumpets, giving heart to every word and tune.
The guests parted with fond memories of the day and the family Thanksgiving dinner. The Consulate staff the guests exchanged invitations to meet again soon and celebrate Christmas together.
