English Teachers Gather in Yekaterinburg for Annual Conference

The U.S. Consulate General and American Councils hosted a two-day English Language Conference at the Sverdlovsk Oblast Library from December 15-16. Over 80 English teachers from throughout the Ural region attended the workshops which focused on methodology and cross culture communication. Attending the conference was Dr. Bridget Gersten, the English Language Officer from the U.S. Embassy. Dr. Gersten gave several presentations on incorporating culture into the classroom and discussed the successful summer camp program initiated by her office.
Additionally, Dr. Gersten spoke at the Oblast Youth library and at the Urals State Pedagogical University. In a meeting at the City Department of Education, Dr. Gersten discussed possible Embassy and Consulate support for teacher training programs as well as piloting the summer camp program in Yekaterinburg.
Beside Summer Camps, the English Language Office of the US Embassy Moscow conducts seminars and workshops for English teachers throughout Russia, and supplies ESL teaching published and electronic materials.
